Great Day for the DPG

Posted by [email protected] on October 18, 2014 at 6:40 PM

Hi People,

Well I announced yesterday on facebook that we had some exciting news for the DH.104 Dove Preservation Group.

You will have already noticed our new logo and I would like to thank our good friend Johnny Fernandez for donating a considerable amount of time designing It, as I think you will agree it is a striking looking logo.

The new logo represents the beginning of the next chapter for the DPG.

We are now officially registered as a not for profit organisation and have acquired two airframes for static restoration:

C/N: 04097, Manufactured in 1947 the aircraft was registered YI-ABK, TJ-ACA, D-100, G-ATGI, VQ-ZJC & VH-ABM.

C/N: 04486, Manufactured in 1957 the aircraft was registered as PH-ION, G-ASMX & VH-DHN.

Stay tuned for more restoration updates.

Good show and congratulations!
But this message brings up some questions about the airframes you mention. I've made a c/n list once about the Dove and the Heron (both originally compiled by Air Britain).
In my list VQ-ZJC is said to have been 04292 and for 04486 I have an extra registration. I-ALGO seems to have been registered from 27 may 1965 to 7 january 1966. Before and after that it was G-ASMX.
Would you be able to provide me with info from the logbooks, or is that too much to ask?
Or maybe it's an idea to put something like that on this website... just an thought :-)

Thanks and good luck!

Hi Bert,
Thank you for you congrats and feed back.
Unfortunatly I do not have Log books for either airframe.
I have been in contact the last operator of VH-ABM who did have them.
He is currently seaching his shed for them and any other bits and peices he might have.
I am hopeful that after 14 years and several house moves he still has them.
The rego history I sourced from the CNAPG website but there is some inaccuracies as you have pointed out, C/N:04097 went straight from G-ATGI to Australia VH-ABM, and was never VQ-ZJC.
04486 was indeed I-ALGO and I just purchased a photo on Ebay of it wearing those markings.
they should be a fun project and if you have any more details or photos I would be great to see them.

Cheers, Dan
